Dan Rowland directs communications and marketing for the City of Denver’s Office of Marijuana Policy and Department of Excise & Licenses. He is the spokesman and director of media relations and public affairs for the city’s business licensing efforts and first-in-the-world implementation of legalized marijuana regulations.
His work includes industry and constituent outreach, developing long-range and short-term strategic planning initiatives, managing marketing campaigns, facilitating communication among city agencies, and legislative planning and policy analysis. He frequently consults on the implementation of legalized cannabis for governments and other stakeholders across North America and the world.
Rowland has been with the city since 2012, previously working for Denver Arts & Venues before starting work with marijuana policy in November 2014. He has previously worked for the Boulder County (Colo.) Commissioners’ Office, the Colorado Avalanche and Denver Nuggets, and The Denver Post.
Rowland has a Master of Public Administration degree from the University of Colorado Denver and a Bachelor of Arts in journalism from Arizona State University. He lives in Denver with his wife, Jacy.
